Marichel Vineyard 2005 Syrah – tasted 20/9/09
There’s a slightly ‘reduced’ aroma on opening the bottle, which disappears immediately once the wine is poured or decanted. Some sediment was noted. The colour and clarity are good. Aromas are classic Syrah in the Rhone Valley-Hermitage palette. The acidity is smooth and nicely balanced. Body is medium, with tastes of berries, Limousine leather and quince. The long, smooth finish tapers off gradually. Drinking beautifully. Consume now, or hold for 5-10 years.

Marichel Vineyard 2007 Viognier – tasted 25/12/09
While less fruit-forward than in its first year, the 2007 Viognier is now showing elegance and poise. These are characteristics that older Viognier is noted for. Mineral notes are more apparent too, as is a leaning towards a classic Rhone-style austerity. Drinking beautifully. Consume now, or hold for 3-5 years.

Marichel Vineyard 2006 Syrah - tasted 31/12/09
As luscious and full-bodied as the day it was bottled. Plum and berry aromas in room-filling quantities. Flavours are similar. Outstanding varietal character, leaning towards the Barossa style. Consume now, or hold for 10-15 years.
